About Our Worship Services
Sunday morning services are usually Holy Eucharist. A few times a year, Morning Prayer is held rather than a Eucharist (typically when our priest is out of town). The Scripture readings are from the Revised Common Lectionary.
On the first Sunday of the month, the service is quiet and contemplative with no music. On all other Sundays, there are several hymns, and portions of the liturgy are sung as well. Music styles used include traditional hymns, folk hymns, praise music (often called "Cursillo music"), and Taizé music (a meditative form of singing originating from the ecumenical Taizé services founded in France in the 1950's). The service ordinarily lasts slightly more than an hour. On the first Sunday of every month this service includes healing with anointing of oil.
Children are always welcome in the sanctuary. There is a rocking chair for those with babes in arm, as well as a low table and chairs for young children.
There is a "Coffee Hour" each week following the Sunday services. We catch up, dream dreams together, and enjoy the energy and joyful exuberance of our children and youth, the wisdom of our elders, and the opportunity to just sit and be together.
A variety of services are offered seasonally including Lessons & Carols during Advent; Stations of the Cross, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday services in Lent. Watch our homepage for announcements about these services.
